Chicken Cottage, Lowry Outlet Mall, Salford. Weird, even by shopping mall standards.

I had dimly remembered there being a KFC here, but there isn’t, there’s a Chicken Cottage.

I always get the same thing when I go to KFC, a Wicked Zinger Tower box-meal - in my mind, the zenith of dirty chicken dinners. You get a “side” (sweetcorn), chicken-burger-with-hash-brown, chips and several bits of chicken for a bit more than a fiver and it’s grand.

CC do something suspiciously similar called a Spicy Cottage Combo Box, but it is slightly smaller with one less piece of chicken, no salsa, and no hash brown. Saying that they do do a “Mountain Burger” with a hash brown, so perhaps by careful negotiation I could get a closer facsimile of what I irrationally desired.

They had to replace my burger due to mayo. I generally dislike mayo unless it is both posh and applied sparingly. They did it swiftly and with good grace. “Yep, that’s mayo! I’ll shout you when it’s ready.”

Ah well. I ate it and felt slightly disappointed.

My take-away lasagne and salad from Franco’s on Rivington Street. I got introduced to the place when I was working down here last spring and it hasn’t changed whatsoever. It looks like a standard glass cabineted London sandwich shop with a few tables in the back, but for a damn cheap and nice lunch (especially the big pasta dishes) I really like it. It’s fully Italian and the tiny kitchen bristles with intense but somehow well co-ordinated activity. There’s normally a queue.

It’s Friday. Has been a long week. Nobody from the place I’m working invited me to the pub, presumably because I’m being paid too much to have time out… so I’ve unilaterally upped sticks and am at Food Hall having belly pork (again).
Last time was ages back in time but only a few posts ago on here. It hasn’t changed but the portion size seems to have improved. It’s tasty, simple and definitely cheering me up.

At “Ruby” in shoreditch. I kinda hoped it would be a rice n three place but they do not exist in London. Passable pasta though :)

Another trip to “Food Hall” this time for a really very nice belly pork, rice, salad thing. Could be a bit more pork in there perhaps but it’s yummy.
